Job Description

We seek compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Seniors Advocate. If you have a passion for protecting seniors' rights and well-being, seize this opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community. As a Seniors Advocate, you will work directly with seniors, their families, and caregivers to ensure they receive the support and protection they deserve.

Please note: This is an unpaid position with the potential to convert to a full-time paid role within 120 days or less, depending on our funding or continued fundraising success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Listen and Support: Engage with seniors, understand their concerns, and address their needs. Provide a listening ear and offer emotional support to seniors facing mistreatment, neglect, or abuse.
  • Educate and Inform: Empower seniors by explaining their rights and guiding them through available resources. Distribute informational materials and assist them in seeking help.
  • Monitor and Report: Observe and document signs of mistreatment or neglect in care facilities, adult daycares, shelters, and private homes. Report findings to appropriate authorities and follow up to ensure corrective action.
  • Assist with Navigation: Aid seniors in navigating healthcare, legal, and social services. Connect them with the support and resources they need to improve their quality of life.
  • Advocate for Change: Collaborate with Certified Ombudsmen and Senior Advocates to amplify seniors' voices and address issues promptly and effectively.
  • Provide Emotional Encouragement: Offer emotional encouragement and share coping strategies with seniors dealing with mistreatment. Connect them with counseling and ongoing support services.

Qualifications:

  • Empathy and Compassion: Demonstrate a genuine desire to help and protect seniors. Relate to and understand the unique challenges faced by older adults.
  • Communication Skills: Convey information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Explain complex topics in a way that seniors can easily understand.
  • Attention to Detail: Observe keenly, document findings accurately, and report them thoroughly.
  • Commitment to Confidentiality: Handle sensitive information with discretion while respecting the privacy and dignity of the seniors you assist.
  • Team Player: Collaborate effectively with other volunteers, staff, and external partners to provide comprehensive support.
