What's the purpose
At the Seniors HelpDesk, we recognize the importance of health in seniors' lives. Health is not just the absence of illness but the presence of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. However, many seniors face challenges that compromise their health and vitality. Our Health Program is dedicated to addressing these challenges and promoting holistic wellness among seniors everywhere.
Health refers to the overall well-being of seniors, encompassing physical, mental, and emotional aspects.
Why Seniors Face Challenges
Seniors encounter various obstacles that impact their health and well-being and escape neglect, abuse or fraud:
- Social Isolation: Loneliness and social isolation can have detrimental effects on seniors' mental and emotional health, leading to depression, anxiety, and a decline in overall well-being.
- Physical Health: Chronic illnesses, mobility limitations, and age-related health issues can affect seniors' ability to lead active and independent lives, posing challenges to their physical health and vitality.
- Mental Health: Seniors may experience cognitive decline, dementia, or other mental health conditions that affect their cognitive function and emotional well-being.
- Access to Healthcare: Some seniors may face barriers to accessing healthcare services, whether due to financial constraints, lack of transportation, or inadequate healthcare coverage.
- Nutrition: Poor nutrition and inadequate dietary intake can compromise seniors' health and contribute to the development of chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

The Health Program is committed to promoting seniors' health and well-being through comprehensive and accessible healthcare services, resources, and support. We believe that every senior deserves the opportunity to live a healthy, active, and fulfilling life, regardless of their age or circumstances. Through our sessions, we aim to empower seniors to take control of their health and make informed decisions that enhance their overall well-being:
- Protein on the Plate: Seniors have the opportunity to replace processed meals filled with salt, sugar, or soy with nutritious meals delivered or prepared in their homes. These meals are carefully curated to provide adequate protein intake, essential nutrients, and dietary balance, promoting better health and well-being among seniors.
- Pills Advocate: For seniors who are managing complex medication regimens and taking five or more pills a day, our trained advocates work closely with them and their healthcare providers to ensure that medications are being taken correctly, monitor for potential interactions or side effects, and offer guidance on medication management strategies. These sessions aim to enhance medication adherence, improve health outcomes, and empower seniors to take control of their medication regimen with confidence.
- Peace of Mind: Seniors participate in talk therapy sessions led by licensed therapists, specially matched with seniors to provide support and guidance in processing and overcoming the emotional pain resulting from mistreatment. These sessions are designed to promote emotional well-being, resilience, and self-care among seniors, helping them reclaim their happiness and sense of peace.
