The Donor Bill of Rights outlines the principles ensuring transparency, accountability, and ethical fundraising practices in the nonprofit sector. Created by the American Association of Fundraising Counsel (AAFRC), now known as the Giving USA Foundation, in 1993, it serves as a widely accepted standard in the nonprofit and fundraising community, though not legally binding.

Fundamental principles of the Donor Bill of Rights:

  1. Voluntary Action in Philanthropy: Donors contribute willingly and freely, without pressure or coercion.
  2. Information About the Organization: Donors receive clear and accurate information about the organization's mission, goals, and the intended use of their donation.
  3. Assurance of Purposeful Use: Donations used for the specific purpose intended by the donor, without diversion for other purposes without consent.
  4. Access to Financial Information: Donors access the organization's most recent financial statements and understand how their donation is managed.
  5. Recognition and Public Disclosure: Donors choose whether to be recognized or remain anonymous, with their wishes regarding anonymity respected.
  6. Privacy of Donor Information: Donors' personal information remains confidential, not shared with third parties without permission.
  7. Effective Communication: Donors receive timely and meaningful communication about the impact of their donation and the organization's activities.
  8. Ability to Ask Questions: Donors ask questions about the organization's activities and finances and receive prompt, truthful answers.
  9. Freedom to Withdraw Support: Donors change their minds and withdraw their support from an organization at any time.
  10. Complain and Seek Resolution: Donors voice concerns or complaints about the organization's fundraising practices and seek fair and prompt resolution.

At Seniors HelpDesk, we follow these principles to build trust and confidence with our donors. Join us in making a difference by donating today.
