Job Description
We seek a compassionate and detail-oriented Story Analyst to join our senior advocacy team. In this role, you will gather and analyze stories from seniors, families, and caregivers about experiences of neglect, abuse, and fraud. Your work will expose critical issues, driving our efforts to protect and support vulnerable seniors.
Please note: This is an unpaid position with the potential to convert to a full-time paid role within 120 days or less, depending on our funding or continued fundraising success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gather Stories: Connect with seniors, families, and caregivers to collect detailed accounts of neglect, abuse, and fraud. Use interviews, surveys, and digital tools to capture their experiences.
- Analyze Patterns: Examine collected stories to identify common themes, patterns, and underlying issues. Utilize data analysis software to inform advocacy strategies and highlight areas requiring urgent attention.
- Chase Stories in the Media: Track and analyze media reports on senior neglect, abuse, and fraud. Investigate these stories further and connect with sources to validate and expand on the details.
- Document and Report: Create detailed reports summarizing your findings. Present these reports to senior leadership, ombudsmen, and advocacy teams, guiding their work.
- Support Advocacy Efforts: Collaborate with the advocacy team to amplify the voices of seniors and families, using their stories to drive meaningful change in care practices and policies.
- Engage with Technology: Leverage technology to organize, analyze, and report on collected stories. Ensure all data remains secure and accessible for ongoing analysis.
- Engage with Stakeholders: Build relationships with seniors, families, caregivers, and other stakeholders, encouraging open communication and trust throughout the process.
Qualifications:
- Experience in Social Work, Advocacy, or Journalism: Demonstrate a background in social work, advocacy, journalism, or a related field, with experience in interviewing, gathering stories, and using technology for analysis.
- Strong Analytical Skills: Analyze complex information, identify trends or patterns, and use technology to inform our advocacy efforts.
- Media Savvy: Stay informed on current events, track stories in the media related to senior care, and chase down leads to uncover new insights.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Display exceptional verbal and written communication skills, focusing on empathy and sensitivity when discussing difficult topics.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure accuracy and completeness in all documentation and reporting. Maintain a high level of attention to detail in both gathering and analyzing stories.
- Empathy and Compassion: Understand the emotional and psychological impact of neglect, abuse, and fraud on seniors and their families. Approach each story with care and compassion.
- Commitment to Confidentiality: Handle all information with discretion, protecting the privacy of those sharing their stories.
